The Experience

What the Holiday Stroll feels like

The event has the energy of a community celebration without feeling rushed or overly commercial. Families walk along Catalina Avenue, children dress for the holidays, music carries through the Village and the lights make the entire area feel festive.

A relaxed holiday pace

By early December, many families are beginning to slow down for the holidays. The stroll reflects that change in pace. People linger, visit with neighbors and enjoy the evening rather than hurrying from one destination to another.

Music and live entertainment

Holiday songs, performances and live entertainment bring energy to the street while still allowing the event to feel approachable for families with children of different ages.

Snow near the beach

The artificial snow is one of the most memorable details. Even in coastal Southern California, it can create a surprisingly convincing Christmas feeling as children dance and play beneath it.

S

Santa arrives

Santa is a central part of the evening and adds to the sense that the entire Village has turned into a neighborhood holiday celebration.

G

The Grinch joins the fun

The Grinch gives the event a playful, storybook quality and helps create the almost Whoville-like atmosphere that makes the stroll so distinctive.

Hot cocoa and seasonal treats

Warm drinks, restaurant stops and holiday treats make it easy to turn the stroll into a complete family evening rather than a quick visit.

A Scherb Family Memory

Dancing beneath the snow in Riviera Village

One of our favorite Riviera memories

I remember Clover and Kimberly dancing underneath the falling snow. It was artificial snow, but for a moment it felt genuinely cold and Christmas-like.

Santa came through, music and holiday songs filled the Village, and families moved between the lights, shops and restaurants with cups of hot cocoa. It was beautiful and immediately put us in the holiday spirit.

A little like Whoville by the beach

The best way I can describe the atmosphere is that it feels a little like the Whos from Whoville gathering in the center of town.

Children dress up, local families reconnect and the businesses lining Catalina Avenue become part of the celebration. It feels festive, comfortable and community-driven rather than staged.

Cliff’s Notes Take
Our family does not remember the Holiday Stroll because of one attraction. We remember the feeling: Clover and Kim dancing under the snow, families filling Catalina Avenue and the entire Village seeming to celebrate together.

Local Shopping & Dining

The Riviera Village businesses help make the event special

The Holiday Stroll works because the Village itself is already designed for walking, dining and browsing. During the event, the local businesses extend that experience into a full neighborhood celebration.

Holiday shopping

Independent shops and local retailers give visitors an opportunity to browse for gifts while supporting the businesses that help define Riviera Village throughout the year.

Dinner before or after

The concentration of restaurants makes it easy to pair the stroll with a family dinner, a casual drink, dessert or a warm stop during the evening.

Festive storefronts

Seasonal displays and lighting help the celebration extend beyond the scheduled entertainment. The entire commercial district becomes part of the event.

Cliff’s Notes Take
Events like this are also a reminder that local businesses are not separate from the neighborhood experience. They are one of the reasons Riviera Village feels like a true community center rather than simply a shopping district.
